I Won the World Porridge Making Championship Specialty Award for my Sticky Toffee Porridge!

October 5th, 2014 | 30 Comments

At the World Porridge Making Championship or the Golden Spurtle contest, I was a winner, and I couldn’t be happier! My Sticky Toffee Pudding recipe was co-winner of the speciality award!

Just a super quick post to let you know the news! I shared the Specialty Award with Chris Young, who made a savory porridge dish!

And here is how to make proper Scottish porridge for breakfast (or any other meal of the day, for that matter!)

How to make porridge

There’s a rather long story as to why I competed in the World Porridge Making Championship or Golden Spurtle Competition in the first place, and the things that transpired to bring me to Carrbridge. Let’s just say that it seems karma did her job on this day and I couldn’t be more pleased!

Maybe one day I’ll tell the whole story. It’s a good one.

If you’re ever in Scotland in early October, you may want to head up to Carrbridge to watch the competition at the village hall. It’s truly quite exciting! Don’t miss the bridge in the village, if you go!

Meet Christina

A Scottish Italian cook living in Los Angeles, Christina is usually cooking, baking or (cr)eating something scrumptious. When she isn't in the kitchen, she loves to travel, near and far, as long as good food is involved. Christina is on a mission to save authentic Italian dishes from extinction, and is constantly promoting Scottish (and British) food as some of the best cuisine the world has to offer—one steak pie and sticky toffee pudding at a time.
