Mocha avocado mousse secretly has avocado disguised within swirls of deep, dark chocolate flavor. Not only is it delicious, but it’s healthy and nutritious. Win-win.
This mocha avocado mousse is one of those sneaky treats that uses a healthy ingredient no one knows is included! I bet if you asked everyone, no one would know it’s made with avocado!

I’m not usually a nature hater, but I’m still at war with a squirrel in my avocado tree. You may recall my ire at said creature over a year ago when I posted my avocado and tomato salad.
Well, all this time later, that squirrel still gets to more of my avocados than I do! I pick so many of them off the ground that I just had to do something different with the avocados as they were ripening all at once.
Serendipity struck when I saw Manu’s Menu’s post for Chocolate Avocado Mousse! It looked so dark, thick and rich, and so incredibly easy to make. I made a few changes as I wanted a more boozy dessert, and though coffee might be a nice addition. Just click here if you want to make Manu’s original chocolate recipe in which she uses honey and maple syrup, instead of confectioner’s sugar, which is an even healthier version.
By the way, no one in my family realized that there was avocado in the Mocha Avocado Mousse until I told them (but not until after they’d all scoffed them)!
Mocha (Avocado) Mousse
adapted from Manu’s Menu Chocolate Avocado Mousse
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (4 oz) dark chocolate (good quality like Barry or Lindt)
- 2 medium avocados, peeled and cored
- 1/4 cup (1 oz) unsweetened cocoa
- 3 tbsp Kahlua or other coffee flavored liqueur
- 1/4 tsp espresso powder
- pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup confectioner’s sugar (more or less to taste)
Melt the chocolate and set aside.
Place the remaining ingredients into a food processor and blend until smooth.
Add the melted chocolate and blend until evenly mixed.
Ta dah! See how easy that was? It’s ready!
You can taste it to see if you like more sugar or more coffee flavor and adjust to your liking.
Pipe or spoon into serving glasses, bowls or cups and refrigerate until ready to serve. If you liked my Mocha Avocado Mousse, I bet you’ll like more of my desserts, some of which can be found directly below.

Tried this yesterday. Delicious! My family could not believe me when I told them what it was made of 😀
Haha! I love it! Thank you for sharing, Maria! :) CC
Hi all Avocado Mousse Aficionados,
I made a recipe similar to this one with avocado, good quality cocoa powder, bourbon, Nativa sweetner, vanilla, and a little maple syrup. The texture and look was AWESOME but the flavor was just a little off. Kind of vegetably which my testers noticed BEFORE I told anyone there were avocados in it. My suspicion was the maple syrup was the issue. (I could really taste it) . Has anyone had this issue and has anyoe found a solution. I REALLY want this recipe to work.

I bet that would be good! I enjoy avocado smoothies. With chocolate I bet it’s even better!
Correct! Everything’s better with chocolate, Matt! ;)
This is incredible – it looks like the most insanely indulgent chocolate ganache ever! I’ve made avocado pudding before, but it never looked this good, lol. I will definitely be trying your recipe!
Ooh, I’ve never even heard of avocado pudding! Let me know how you like the mousse, Faith. CC
I just love chocolate and avocado together. This mousse looks great!
Thank you, Susan! CC
Wow, this looks so indulgent – yet healthy. I’ve read a lot about avocado chocolate mousse but have yet to try it. Bookmarking this recipe – thank you!
Great, thanks Steph!
This looks great! I do a chocolate avocado mousse and l-o-v-e the addition of Kahlua. Mmmmmmm…..
Delicious! I love mocha flavor.
I made this a few years back, and totally forgot how good this is! I need to make it again, it looks yummy!
Good way to get more avocado in your diet! :)
That is one dark and creamy looking mousse!
It really is, and tastes as good as it looks, too!
I have to say, it doesn’t sound weird at all! I tried avocado brownies last fall, and was shocked at how delicious they were! I’ll bet this mousse is equally good!
Yep, you’d have no clue it’s got something out of the ordinary in it! I’d love to try those brownies too!
omg … that mousse is gorgeous! I am not an avocado fan … but if you say it doesn’t taste weird, I may have to give it a try!
I used to dislike avocados too, but when our house came with an avocado tree which was LOADED with fruit, I felt guilty not eating them, knowing how good they are for us. I started with chips and guacamole, and grew to like the guac more and more. Then my mother added a little to our salads when she’d visit and all of a sudden (well, actually, more gradually) I LOVED avocados!! Anyway, this mousse is very un-avocado-y, so this might be a place to start for you, Kimberly! :)
What a clever little mousse – wow! It’s healthy too with the avocado!
Exactly! :)
I’ve had choc-avo mousse and it is delicious! Your tweaks sound just right.
Thanks, Dorothy!
I LOVE the look of this – and I would have NEVER thought of making a chocolate mouse with avacado! Good thing avacados are so abundant in Mexico :)
It does have a beautiful, glossy look, doesn’t it? Glad you like the idea! :) CC

I have made chocolate avocado mousse before and it’s delicious, I really love how you amped it up with the espresso and kahlua. I must try your recipe, I didn’t use powdered cocoa in mine and really love how that will intensify the chocolate flavor. This is truly yummy!
I never heard of using avocado in mousse before, until I saw Manu’s Menu’s dessert. Let me know how you like it if you do make it, Suzanne! :) Thank you!!
I’m drooling!! love avocado, love the rest of the ingredients – I’ve bookmarked this and longing to try! your photograph is gorgeous!
Mary x
Oh thank you, Mary! I’m so glad you’re going to try it! I know you’ll love it! CC
