Avocado Chocolate Pudding

Avocado chocolate pudding secretly disguises avocado within swirls of deep, dark chocolate flavor. Not only is it delicious, but it’s healthy and nutritious–win-win.

I bet if you asked, no one would guess that this creamy avocado chocolate pudding is made with avocado!

I’m not usually a nature hater, but I’m still at war with a squirrel in my avocado tree. You may recall my frustration with this creature over a year ago when I posted my avocado and tomato salad.

Well, all this time later, that squirrel still gets to more of my avocados than I do! I pick so many of them off the ground that I just had to do something different with the avocados as they were ripening all at once.

Which Avocados are Best?

Obviously, if you have access to local fruit, those avocados will be the best. Otherwise, any you find will work in this recipe because you truly can’t taste the fruit. Have duds that just have no flavor? This is a great reason to make this avocado chocolate pudding! However, if you want to order good avocados, you’ll find quite a few choices including Hass avocados at Melissa’s Produce.

Serendipity struck when I saw Manu’s Menu chocolate avocado mousse recipe! It looked so dark, thick and rich, and so incredibly easy to make. I made a few changes to this chocolate and avocado pudding as I wanted a bit of a boozy dessert, but you can totally omit the alcohol. You can also make it even healthier by substituting honey or maple syrup for the powdered sugar, but my opinion is that the flavor will suffer.

By the way, no one in my family realized that there was avocado in this avocado and chocolate pudding until I told them, but not until after they’d scoffed them all!

Apparently, Kourteney Kardashian makes an avocado pudding, but this is so much better, because hers has no cocoa powder or chocolate. Trust me, the health benefits also increase if you use good quality cocoa powder and dark chocolate!

  1. Tried this yesterday. Delicious! My family could not believe me when I told them what it was made of 😀

  2. Hi all Avocado Mousse Aficionados,

I made a recipe similar to this one with avocado, good quality cocoa powder, bourbon, Nativa sweetner, vanilla, and a little maple syrup. The texture and look was AWESOME but the flavor was just a little off. Kind of vegetably which my testers noticed BEFORE I told anyone there were avocados in it. My suspicion was the maple syrup was the issue. (I could really taste it) . Has anyone had this issue and has anyoe found a solution. I REALLY want this recipe to work.
