Egg and Chips
Egg and chips is a classic, British comfort food that’s easy to make, cheap, and delicious! Add Heinz beans to gild the lily and turn it into eggs, beans and chips!

Egg and chips is a delicious meal that most Americans don’t ever consider for lunch or dinner.

So let me be the messenger to bring you the news from the UK that this is indeed, a fantastic option, especially when you think there’s nothing to eat. If you have eggs and potatoes, it’s just a matter of minutes before dinner is served!

If you have subscribed to my newsletter for some time, you may remember my beans on toast recipe, or even my Heinz Beans article. If so, you won’t be surprised to learn that there’s another addition to this plate which makes it even better: eggs, beans and chips!

Not just any beans, but British Heinz beans (although, they were originally American!) If you’ve never tried them, you’re missing out because they are a staple in almost all British pantries!
Steak pudding with chips.

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE chips or fries when they are cut evenly sized. Not only is it visually more appealing, but they cook evenly, avoiding the problem of overcooked or undercooked chips. While this is definitely not an essential kitchen tool, I love my French fry cutter!
To make chips, you should cut them on the larger size, so they’re not petite fries.

Of course, you can even cut them bigger to make chunkier chips. It’s just a matter of preference.
Classic Scottish fish and chips.

Back to egg and chips, or chips and eggs (which no one ever calls them in the UK, for some reason), I want to add that HP Sauce is a common addition as well as Heinz beans. Although, you can just serve egg and chips with HP without the beans. I recently shared an entire article about HP Sauce because I love it so much!

You can use those chips to dip into your yolk, much the same as dippy eggs and soldiers! I hope this gives you another idea for lunch or dinner when you just don’t know what to make. It’s easy and so tasty!

Just add a steaming hot cup of tea for the win!

Ingredients
- potato
- olive oil
- eggs
- salt
- (optional HP Sauce)
Directions
Scrub and peel the potato and cut into chips (or fries, as desired.) Place in a bowl of water.

In a small pot, add some olive oil that is enough to fry the potato that you have cut. Place it over medium heat and bring to 350F or 175C (if you have a candy thermometer.)
Drain the potatoes and dry thoroughly with paper towel or tea towel. Add to oil once it’s hot. Fry for about 10 minutes, turning every few minutes and adjusting the heat as necessary.
While the chips are frying, heat a small frying pan for the eggs. I recommend a seasoned cast iron pan or non stick pan. Add a little olive oil, then add the eggs.
Cook as desired. Season with salt (and pepper.) Remove from the heat.
Drain the chips onto a paper towel lined plate or bowl and add salt.

Serve the eggs and chips immediately, adding HP Sauce (recommended) and/or heated Heinz beans, and a cup of tea.
