Beatrix Potter, The Lake District and Traditional British Recipes for Easter — A Guest Post for The Royal Oak Foundation

March 31st, 2015 | 17 Comments

Traditional British Easter recipes are some of the best that Britain has to offer. Just think of how delicious Hot Cross Buns are. They’re so good, they’ve actually become a year round treat.

You might have already seen my post on Mrs. Rabbit’s Hot Cross Buns, which are the buns you see in the photo above, made from a recipe which I adapted from a children’s activity booklet.

However, in that post, I never really wrote much about Hot Cross Buns (other than the recipe), Beatrix Potter, who is the creator of Mrs. Rabbit (Peter Rabbit’s mother), or how much she contributed to the establishment of the UK National Trust.

Mark is craving a trip to the UK – so it might just happen soon. I will definitely remember the Royal Oak – and Mark will have to wear his Royal Oak Society tie! Love the hot cross buns and am headed to read about Mrs. Rabbit! (Last time I was in London, the Tate had an exhibit on Beatrix Potter’s work. It was delightful – magical, actually.) Happy Easter, Christina!

Goodness! I was just over commenting on your last posts! :)

So happy to hear you might be headed to the UK soon! You’ll love having the RO membership as there are so many places you can visit! The handbook alone makes me giddy!! I would have LOVED to see the Beatrix Potter exhibition at the Tate; lucky you that you were able to see it.

Happy Easter to you too, David! CC

Wonderful post, Christina – we’re huge Beatrix Potter fans here, I didn’t know she had a hand in establishing the national trust!

I really enjoyed your guest post, the photos, and the story about the origin of your Hot Cross Buns. I also appreciate the info about the Royal Oak Foundation. As someone who lived in Great Britain for seven years and love going back for return visits, a membership with the Royal Oak Foundation sounds invaluable. Thanks again.

I’m so happy I discovered the Royal Oak Foundation so many years ago, because if I was just hearing about it now, I’d be so upset at missing all those past opportunities to be able to take advantage of the membership, Kimberly. Hope you are able to go back to visit, soon! CC

    Dear Christina,
What a wonderful post. I wish I was able to travel, I would love to go to the UK and visit Royal Oak foundation. You have written such a beautiful post on the Royal Oak Foundation and the photos I remember where awesome! I love Beatrix Potter, I always read the books to my son when he was little, and I also had a plate set, mug, etc. Rabbits are very special as my niece Lauren has one (a long eared lap rabbit) She calls it Molly. I love to play with her when I visit. Royal Oak Foundation’s AngloFiles Blog that you wrote is a wonderful article. I love the way you write and you are partners with them. Also love your recipe for Mrs. Rabbits Hot Cross Buns. I will have to remember to make this one for sure. Thank you for sharing. You are truly an inspiration to me. Have a fun rest of the week.
    Dottie :)
