I know of a boutique hotel in Trieste that you would love!
Disclosure: I was hosted at the Forvm Boutique Hotel in Trieste for two nights with no obligation for a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Traveling around the Northeast region of Italy (near Venice) is where Cynthia, from What a Girl Eats, and I normally explore each October before the Tiramisù World Cup. This year, we decided to visit Trieste (pronounced Tree-ess-teh), and the Forvm Boutique Hotel stood out as perfect mid-range choice which was in a superb, central location.

Where is the Forvm Boutique Hotel?
The Forvm Boutique Hotel is a short 9 minute walk from the Trieste Central Train/Bus Station, or a 5 minute drive. It’s also a 4 minute walk from the Grand Canal, pictured above, which is in the central part of the city, along with other major sights and attractions. This boutique hotel in Trieste is also only a 7 minute walk from the waterfront, and 15 minutes from Castello di San Giusto (Saint Justus Castle.)

Given its central location, there are many restaurants and shops nearby, as well. In fact there are several just steps away from this boutique hotel, and many more just a few blocks away.

Why the Forvm Boutique Hotel?
While my initial reasons for staying at this accommodation were the location, style, and price of the hotel, I’ve since discovered there are so many factors in choosing the Forvm Boutique Hotel.

- WELCOME BEVERAGE – After arriving, we were welcomed with glasses of Prosecco. What a nice gesture, especially when you’ve had a few rough travel days (as we had just experienced with a missed flight, delays and a transportation strike!) We were also offered tea or coffee instead of sparkling wine, if we preferred, but we didn’t! 🥂 ADDITIONAL PERK – Check in is at 1 pm! This was wonderful for us when we arrived as we really needed a rest, and truly appreciated the early check in.
- ELEVATOR – Another perk is an elevator! These are often few and far between unless you’re in a newer or luxury hotel in Europe. We had just stayed at such a hotel in Venice and had to lug five bags up four flights of stairs so the lift was a sight for sore eyes (there are a few steps at the entrance to get to the elevator, but we weren’t complaining.)
- CUSTOMER SERVICE – We witnessed firsthand how invested the staff are in helping guests. While we were sipping out Prosecco, we overheard a couple’s travel nightmare: they had left their passports and wallet in the safe of their last hotel over three hours away! Nicola, at the front desk, went above and beyond to help the guests, who were extremely grateful. And yes, fortunately they managed to re-rent a car, drive to the hotel, and retrieve their valuables and documents!

- BEAUTIFUL BREAKFAST – I was blown away by the breakfast that was served at the Forvm Boutique Hotel!

- Not only because the presentation was stunning (served on tea trays), but the fact that the quality of the food was fantastic, and it was different on each table and each day–what a lovely idea! Each tray includes fruit pastries, a savory item and yogurt. There are dietary options and it changes daily, so if you’re staying for several days, you’ll never be bored with breakfast!

- DECOR & ATMOSPHERE – As you can see from the photos, the color palette of the Forvm Boutique Hotel is muted neutrals and relaxing shades. The unique and eclectic style is very soothing. I felt myself feeling less stressed each time we came back to the hotel and our room. This was a pleasant surprise as Italy often has very bright and loudly styled hotel rooms. Of course, style is subjective, but if you’re like me, you’ll appreciate the soft tones, thoughtful decor and lighting.
- THE ROOMS – Our double room was spacious enough for two people with minimal luggage. My extra, larger suitcase made it a bit tighter for space. The bathroom was very clean, as was the entire hotel, and it had a great shower. There are 12 rooms in the main hotel, and 4 luxury rooms/2 suites at a location nearby.

- ZUCCA RADIO – Yes, pumpkin radio was playing in the lobby and we loved it. Great selection of tunes which added to the overall atmosphere of feeling at home.
Visiting Trieste

We were at the Forvm boutique hotel in Trieste only two nights, so we only touched the surface in sightseeing. We stayed in the center of the city and despite some really bad weather, still managed to visit the Castello di San Giusto (Saint Justus Castle), the Grand Canal, the waterfront, and a pre-event for the Barcolana ’57 – The Largest Sailing Race in the World.

We saw Roman ruins, hit bakeries, ate at several restaurants and we walked a lot!

The food was so interesting because of the city’s influence from different culinary regions nearby including Austria, Germany, Slovenia and Hungary. Think Italian-style goulash, heartier dishes than central Italy, unique ingredient combinations, and different menus than I’ve ever seen in Italy. (Be forewarned, buffets aren’t buffets in Trieste, they are just restaurants with normal menus.)

One of the dishes I was dying to try was frico, a typical potato and cheese dish from the region. It did not disappoint! You can try it with this recipe for frico from Frank at Memorie di Angelina.

Trying the local cured meats was fantastic! Can’t say there was anything I didn’t like; it was a matter of ranking which I liked best!

At the beautiful pastry shop, La Bomboniera, I tried their signature pastry, La Carsolina. Similar to Italian millefoglie with a light pastry cream. It was good, but didn’t knock my socks off. I think their pastries look better than they taste (I tried a second pastry which did disappoint.)

Overall, I would recommend Trieste from the brief visit Cynthia and I had in early October. Yachting enthusiasts, this is the perfect time for you, however, I can imagine that summer is even nicer with the warmer weather and outdoor dining as an option as there are so many bars and places for aperitivo.

This boutique Hotel is gorgeous and the food presentation is stunning. I love staying at boutique hotels due to the fact that they have such unique details. I can’t wait to try the Frico recipe. Thank you for the chance to win the Headphones!
As someone who has NEVER traveled outside the USA, I marvel at your travel postings…and will confess I am more than a bit envious…I don’t even have a passport!!! There are only a few places in Europe I would like to travel to with Italy being second on the list. Your photos and info on Trieste make it one of the places I would love to see. The photo of breakfast at the Boutique Hotel looked amazing, and I can only imagine relaxing on the huge bed in the first photo. It would only be better by listening to music on my HEADPHONES. :) Blessings from West Virginia, USA
