A simple 3 ingredient topping recipe that can be used for topping pies, and making fruit crumbles. (SEE NOTES FOR A GLUTEN FREE OPTION)
1 ⅓  c  flour  (organic, all purpose)  ½   c  butter  (salted, cold) one stick ¼   c  sugar
Get Recipe Ingredients Place the flour into a bowl, and add the cold butter in large pieces.
Using two butter knives, cut the butter into the flour. Keep cutting until the pieces are the size of a pea. This doesn't take long at all.
Once it's pea-sized crumbs, use your fingers to rub the butter into the flour until it's uniform and in small crumbs.
Stir the sugar into the crumble mixture until evenly mixed. Use as desired. (Add to your favorite fruit topping, or pie, and bake as needed.)
{Bake your crumble at 400 degrees F (200 C) for about 25 minutes, or until the crumble topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling below.}
For a gluten free topping, substitute gluten free or oat flour for the all purpose flour. This works really well.
You can also replace the white sugar with brown sugar, if desired.
