A simple 3 ingredient topping recipe that can be used for topping pies, and making fruit crumbles. (SEE NOTES FOR A GLUTEN FREE OPTION)

Ingredients

  • 1 ⅓ c flour (organic, all purpose)
  • ½ c butter (salted, cold) one stick
  • ¼ c sugar

Instructions

  • Place the flour into a bowl, and add the cold butter in large pieces.
  • Using two butter knives, cut the butter into the flour. Keep cutting until the pieces are the size of a pea. This doesn't take long at all.
  • Once it's pea-sized crumbs, use your fingers to rub the butter into the flour until it's uniform and in small crumbs.
  • Stir the sugar into the crumble mixture until evenly mixed. Use as desired. (Add to your favorite fruit topping, or pie, and bake as needed.)
  • {Bake your crumble at 400 degrees F (200 C) for about 25 minutes, or until the crumble topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling below.}

Notes

  • For a gluten free topping, substitute gluten free or oat flour for the all purpose flour. This works really well.
  • You can also replace the white sugar with brown sugar, if desired.
